GPR Locating in West Palm Beach

We Find All Sorts of Things Underground: Metal or Plastic

GPR Bros does GPR locating in West Palm Beach. Ground penetrating radar reads the soil itself, so we find what metal detectors and an 811 ticket miss, and not just pipes. We locate underground utilities, scan concrete before you cut it, find hidden water leaks, trace electrical faults, run cameras inside pipes, and sweep for buried oil tanks. Metal or plastic, mapped or forgotten: if it’s under your site, we find it. Same-day across Palm Beach County from our South Florida base.

How GPR Locating Works

Every GPR Bros locate follows the same three steps: you tell us about the job, we scan the site and mark every line we find right on the ground, and you get the paperwork.

Step 02

Locate

Our tech sweeps the site with ground penetrating radar plus electromagnetic tracing, finds every line and target we can detect, metal or plastic, and marks it right on the ground in APWA colors with paint and flags.

We Find What 811 and Metal Detectors Miss

An 811 ticket only marks the utility company’s public lines out in the road. Everything past the meter is on you. And a lot of the pipe going in today is plastic, which metal detectors walk right over. GPR reads the ground itself, so we find PVC water lines, fiber conduit, abandoned services, and tanks that nothing else picks up. With an average gas or electric line hit running about $147,000 to $151,000, a two-hour locate beats a six-figure surprise.

How We Find What's Underground

Ground Penetrating Radar

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Our core tool. GPR fires radar pulses into the ground and reads what bounces back, so it picks up plastic, PVC, concrete, and voids that metal-only locators walk right over. No metal required.

Electromagnetic Tracing

Electromagnetic Tracing (EM)

For metal lines, we put a signal on the utility and follow its path and depth: active mode when we can connect to a line directly, passive mode to pick up live power and telecom.

Acoustic Leak Detection

Acoustic Leak Detection

For pressurized water lines we listen. Ground microphones and correlators amplify the sound of escaping water to pinpoint the leak before anyone digs.

CCTV Pipe Cameras

CCTV Pipe Inspection

When we need to see inside a line, we push a camera through it, confirming pipe material and condition and showing exactly where a sewer or storm line runs and where it's failing.

What We Locate With GPR

GPR Bros runs seven services off one core skill: finding what’s underground and telling you exactly where it is. Ground penetrating radar is the through-line, backed by electromagnetic tracing, acoustic sensing, and CCTV where the job calls for it.

Private utility line locating icon

Utility Locating

Water, sewer, gas, electric, telecom, and the private lines past the meter that 811 never marks. Radar finds plastic and metal alike.

Concrete scanning icon

Concrete Scanning

Rebar, post-tension cables, and conduit inside slabs and walls. We mark safe cut zones before your saw or core bit touches the concrete.

Electromagnetic signal tracing icon

Leak Detection

We trace pressurized water lines, then walk them with ground microphones to pinpoint the breach, so you dig one hole, not ten.

Sonde and duct rod tracing icon

Fault Locating

Underground electrical fault? We trace the cable and isolate the failure point so the repair crew digs only where they need to.

Buried metal detection icon

Oil Tank Detection

We sweep with radar and magnetometry to find buried oil tanks, cisterns, and piping before a sale, closing, or dig.

Video pipe inspection camera icon

Video Pipe Inspection

We push CCTV cameras through sewer laterals and storm drains to find cracks, roots, bellies, and blockages from the inside.

Void & Sinkhole Detection

GPR finds voids, sinkholes, and buried structures that don't show on any drawing, before they become a problem.

Types of Lines and Targets We Locate

GPR Bros marks all located utilities with paint and flags following the APWA Uniform Color Code. Your excavation crew sees exactly what type of infrastructure runs beneath their equipment before breaking ground.

What You Get After Every Job

Accurate data only helps if you can use it. Every GPR Bros job comes with APWA color-coded paint and flags on site, a PDF field report within 24 hours with depth estimates, GPS coordinates on what we locate, and KMZ or CAD files for your engineers on request. Working in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Riviera Beach, or anywhere in Palm Beach County. You get the documentation your project and permits need.

On-Site Paint and Flag Marking

Every job gets marked with APWA color-coded paint and flags to prevent damage and increase work safety. We use water-based paint that makes semi-permanent marks visible throughout your project. Dirt and grass areas get flagged. We adapt our methods to ensure no existing structure gets damaged during mark-out.

Written Job Report

Our reports document everything: technician name, time on site, utility types located, depth estimates, methods used, obstructions encountered, and any other findings from the investigation. You get a complete written record of what we found and how we found it.

Photographic Documentation

Photos document our work and provide permanent reference points for years to come. We photograph utility marks alongside permanent landscape features so locations can be verified long after paint fades. Every report includes a Dropbox link with all project images.

Satellite Overlay Maps

Upon request, GPR Bros provides satellite imagery overlaid with visual illustration of all utilities located, depths, and other job-relevant information. Maps show exactly where gas lines, water mains, electric, sewer, and telecom run across your site.

GPS Survey Files for CAD Integration

All GPR Bros technicians carry geo-satellite receivers. Upon request, we perform a basic GPS survey and deliver KMZ and KML files you can import directly into your project software or CAD systems.

Local Knowledge · West Palm Beach

About West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach combines active downtown redevelopment, established neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and waterfront properties. That mix can mean private utilities, additions, and site changes that are not fully reflected in public records.

Before trenching, drilling, coring, fence installation, landscaping, or other ground disturbance, GPR Bros helps contractors and property teams investigate the work area beyond the limits of a standard 811 ticket. Our technicians use GPR and complementary locating methods to look for metallic and non-metallic targets, then mark findings in the field.

We serve West Palm Beach and surrounding Palm Beach County communities from our South Florida operation. Common service areas include downtown and the waterfront, Palm Beach Lakes, Northwood, the airport and industrial corridors, and nearby municipalities such as Lake Worth Beach, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, and Wellington. Scheduling and same-day availability depend on crew location and project scope.

Every site is different. Surface materials, soil, moisture, access, congestion, and target material can affect results, so we explain known limitations and provide the requested field markings and documentation before your crew proceeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from West Palm Beach contractors, engineers, and property owners about GPR locating.

Does GPR work in South Florida sand and high water table?

Yes. Dry sandy soil is great for radar, since the signal travels well. The challenge near the coast is the high water table; saturated ground absorbs the signal and cuts how deep we can see. Our techs adjust antenna frequency per site (lower frequencies for wet zones, higher for shallow scans) and add electromagnetic tracing where the radar runs short, so you still get a complete locate.

Yes. That’s the whole point of GPR. Metal detectors and standard electromagnetic locators can’t trace PVC, HDPE, or fiber. Ground penetrating radar finds them because it reads density changes in the soil, not metal. A lot of the pipe going in today is plastic, so this is exactly the gap GPR closes.

Engineers sort locating into four levels of certainty, set out in a standard called ASCE 38. Level D is old maps and records. Level C adds what you can see on the surface, like manholes, valve covers and meters. Level B is our standard locate: we scan with GPR and electromagnetic tracing and mark each line and its estimated depth right on the ground. Level A means digging down to expose the line so its exact position can be measured. Tell us about the job and we’ll tell you which level it needs.
