On the commercial side, offices, medical buildings, and shopping centers get renovated over and over. Every new tenant cuts and cores the slab, and every one of those cuts can hit rebar, post-tension cable, or conduit. We scan first and mark the safe spots.
Ground Conditions in Boca Raton
Boca Raton sits right where South Florida's coastal rock changes. North of here, the ridge along the coast is a sandy, shelly limestone; to the south it turns into the Miami Limestone. Around downtown, most of the ground is deep, dry sand that federal soil surveys rate very high for radar. On the old dune ridge near the ocean, the sand is packed with shell fragments and the water table sits more than 10 feet down.
Step off the ridge into the lower, flatter ground and it changes fast. In those spots the water table is within a foot of the surface for two to six months a year, some pockets hold standing water, and the tidal edges have mucky sand. That's why one Boca job can scan clean and deep and the next, a mile away, needs a different setup. Dry sand lets radar see a long way; soaked or mucky ground soaks up the signal. We check before we promise, and the report tells you what depth the ground allowed.
What’s Under the Streets in Boca Raton
Boca Raton runs its own water and sewer for about 130,000 customers: around 700 miles of water pipe, 242 pump stations and about 112 miles of force main. It also runs IRIS, a reclaimed water system with 43 miles of purple pipe that waters medians, parks, 9 golf courses and more than 1,600 homes. Gas in Boca comes from Florida Public Utilities, and FPL runs the power.
A lot of Boca's pipe is getting old. A city pipe study flagged $160 million of near-term work in six neighborhoods with aging water and sewer mains, rear-yard water services and asbestos-cement pipe, and $600 to $750 million of needs over 20 years. Rear-yard services matter if you're working behind a house: the water line may come in from the back of the lot, not the street. Asbestos-cement pipe has no metal in it, so a metal locator walks right over it. Radar is how you find it.
We work all over Boca Raton, including Downtown and Mizner Park, East Boca near the beach, the office parks along I-95 and Yamato Road, and West Boca, plus nearby Highland Beach, Delray Beach, and Deerfield Beach.
