Warehouse and shop floors get cut and cored for new equipment, drains, and racking. We scan the slab first and mark what's inside it, so the saw doesn't find a conduit or cable for you.
Ground Conditions in Pompano Beach
Federal soil surveys map large parts of Pompano Beach as shaped fill: soil that was brought in and graded to build on, sitting over limestone. In those areas the water table is about 3 feet down and the rock starts at roughly 4 feet. Mixed in are patches of deep, dry natural sand where the water stays 6 feet or more below the surface, and low spots where the fill was laid over old organic soil.
Fill is the tricky part for a locate. It can carry chunks of concrete, rock, and old debris that show up on radar right alongside the real pipes, and on industrial lots it's often been dug up and backfilled more than once. We look for the continuous path a real line makes, mark what's a line and what isn't, and flag anything we can't identify instead of calling the area clear. Where the dry sand runs deep, radar sees a long way down.
What’s Under the Streets in Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach runs its own water system, with 274 miles of water main and just over 2,000 fire hydrants, and it serves Lighthouse Point and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea too. Since 1989 the city has also run a reclaimed water system called OASIS, with 32.4 miles of purple pipe, and more than 1,240 homes have hooked up to it. The city puts those service lines in by boring under the yard, so a purple irrigation line can run under a lawn with no trench scar to show where it went. FPL runs the power and Peoples Gas runs the gas.
In January 2019, during the I-95 widening, a contractor's drill hit a 42-inch sewer main 17 feet down. About 52 million gallons spilled over six days, the city's repair and cleanup came to about $2.8 million, and the contractor paid about $200,000 in fines. That was a deep, big line on a planned job, and it still got hit. If you're boring or drilling in Pompano, knowing exactly where the lines run and how deep they sit is worth a lot more than the locate costs.
We work across Pompano Beach, from the beach and Atlantic Boulevard to Palm Aire and the industrial areas inland, plus nearby Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach, Coconut Creek, and Margate.
